Parent directed feeding

Parent directed feeding is a method that combine both the cue of feeding demand and fixed schedule or intervals alongside with important element of parental assesments

Formula: Feeding time = Hunger cue + clock + Parental Assesment

The benefit of Parent Directed Feeding:

  • When infant feed often, there might be a problem where he/she doesn’t receive adequate milk (quantity or quality)
  • When the hunger cue is not present, we have clock as a safety net to ensure that there’s no too much or too little time elapsed since last feeding time.
  • Hunger cue > clock.

Work on getting full feeding at each feeding session.

Follow this cycle to form habit or routine for the baby:

  • feeding
  • waketime
  • naptime
